A few years ago Old Navy had a lot of simple line basic garments made in India with absolutely nothing on them. I went a little crazy and bought 7 aline dresses and three frilly square neck tops. I am doing something funky with each and every one of them.

The is a dress with apliqued motifs taken from a very nice hawaiian shirt I purchased at the thrift store. For some reason, the hawaiian shirts there are always high quality, unworn and inexpensive. So I have bought many and have 7 projects on the way with the bits and pieces.

The pieces are sewn on with tiny backstitching. To do this easy you should not cut up your fabric. Put the dress and fabric in an embroidery hoop and it will hold everything steady for easy (albeit long...) sewing. Once it is finished, cut along the stitching VERY carefully Smiley

I am doing a second shirt and will try to produce some kind of tutorial with the tricks I've picked up along the way. The buttons are simply recovered pinbacks from a band that changed its name. To make them I used the classic sew around a circle and scrunch it up.

Pretty! You did a great job on the stitching. It looks very professional.
