nothing hard, but my 2.5 year old LOVES max and ruby, and there just aren't a lot of m&r toys out there. plus, she's a toddler and rather fickle, so she may be over it next week, no sense buying some pricey toy!

just printed these images out from colorized coloring book pages, sewed, stuffed. attached a ricrac loop so they could be hooked together with a carabiner (made these for our flight to FL this week)!

the printing on fabric thing was so easy, i'm totally making some other little things like this!

What an awesome idea!! My toddler loves "Max & Ruby," too. I may have to copy this!

Might be "nothing hard" but it looks like toddler gold to me!! Grin

excellent!! i bet she loves them! I used to love watching that with the kids Smiley

I tried printing on fabric once but didn't have such good results. The kind of inkjet fabric i used said to rinse for a certain amount of time but after that the colors were faded looking Sad did you use inkjet fabric? Any tips? I had ideas but dropped them because of the poor results! thanks

That is golden!  My 3 yo son is obsessed with Max and Ruby.

Those are adorable!  I really like the rickrack because they stay together for travel!

Great inspiration!

thanks everyone!! i actually didn't use any special fabric, just some cheap-o white cotton quilting fabric i had laying around. i ironed it onto some freezer paper (i also had in the craft closet, so it was really a free project!) to put it through the printer, and it worked out beautifully! i'd love to see what other people come up with Cheesy

i would LOVE to do something like this.  Would you be interested in giving more explicit instructions, like a tute?  The whole freezer paper thing has my mind spinning!! Huh

I love this! What a great idea!
Just this morning I was thinking I need to make my son "Buckle," the cat from Richard Scarry's books, because he loves those books so much. I was thinking of needle-felting a little cat, but this would be WAY easier and much more recognizable!

okay, hopefully this all makes sense Smiley

1. find image you want to make a doll of. for m&r and wubbzy, i used coloring pages i find online.

2. colorize image. i use photoshop to do mine and color sampled from another image i found online.

3. if you're printing more than one, arrange multiple images in a single file that will fit through your printer.

4. prepare your fabric to go through the printer. (i washed mine previously.) i use the freezer paper method for this. (freezer paper is like wax paper, but with wax just on one side instead of both.)

all you do is lay down the freezer paper wax (shiny) side up, lay your fabric on top, and iron with a hot, no steam iron until the fabric sticks to the paper. make sure it's the right size to go though your printer and now we're ready to print!

5. print images onto fabric. use an inkjet printer, this won't work with laser printers.

6. peel away freezer paper from fabric.

6. cut around your image and cut a matching piece for the backing. i used a white swiss dot for wubbzy, just because i had it, lol. this project is all about using stuff in the craft closet!

7. lay pieces right sides together and sew around with a (theoretical) 1/4" seam allowance. if you want to add a loop like mine, do it in this step.

8. turn pillow, stuff and stitch closed. i used my machine for the m&r ones and a whip stitch for wubbzy. blind stitch would be nice but i'm kinda lazy when it comes to hand sewing! Smiley

9. add wubbzy to the m&r dolls on your carabiner and confuse you're 2.5 year old, who says, "mama, wubbzy doesn't live with max & ruby!" Wink

hope that helps! Smiley

OH MY GOD!!  I LOVE THIS!!  I am soooo going to be making these!!  I think I'm going to do Maggie and the Ferocious Beast.  I would also like to do dolls of my dd and her little "boyfriend" (they're 4!!) for his birthday.  I think that would be too cute!!  Thanks so much!!

faithsmama: i made the pillow dolls of my daughter and her "boyfriend"!!  they came out pretty cute, but the freezer paper-backed fabric kept getting jammed in my printer.  and the colors weren't as nice as yours.  exactly what type of fabric did you use?  thanks!!  i will post the pics soon.

Okely dokely, well I tried this.  All went beautifully until  they got wet.....ooops.  Did I miss something in order to make them colour fast?  I made some Twilight characters for my gf and they were gorgeous.  I think Edward got wet coz she slobbered all over him. (btw she is 34 and should know better  Wink)
Any tips?
