Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted anything since February! (I guess pregnancy has affected me more than I thought.) I started this dress around then and finally got around to finishing it today. I had to tweek my original design as halter tops are not allowed at preschool and straps have to be at least 2 inches wide. This started as a handmade mens shirt from our local goodwill. I saw the fabric and had to have it. As you can see Anabel likes it alot and wants to wear it to school tomorrow.

First, thanks to all you craftsters! I really appreciate the feed back, if I ask the hubs all I get is "looks good".

I was a bit confused by the rules myself. The girls even have to wear shorts under their skirts! It's because our preschool is run by the school district and the dress code is for all students in the district pre-k to grade 12. It still seems a bit puritanical to me.

Yes - the fabric just had to be had!  Nice pick, and great dress!  Adorable model, too Smiley

As an aside - the rules seem weird, but as a teacher, I've seen some pretty inappropriate clothing - as for preschool, when the kids nap or climb the monkey bars, there's quite a hooplah when underpants show (especially if they gape and even more shows).  I can only guess that the 2" straps come from what I've noticed with my own daughter (she starts preschool in August - but there's uniforms...blah) is sometimes the narrow strap dresses leave a little more chest area exposed than is publicly acceptable, especially when moving and grooving.

Basically, though, most dress codes result from parents dressing kids WAY inappropriately (think streetwalker, or simply scantily clad), and so they have to make overall prudish rules to cover all possible attempts at hoochie-mamma-ness.

thank you for clearing this up for me, i must be a bit innocent when it comes to dressing my children as they have no 'hoochi mamma' clothing as i like the little innocent girl look so much more Smiley
