Okay so I don't know if everyones parents made them sit still for those silhouettes at Disneyland or if it was just mine but when I was going through some old pictures at my moms I came across one that we had done when I was about 16.  As cool as they are it always struck me as kinda boring, it just sat in the oval frame and that was it.

I decided I would stitch it with black and Metallic threads (gold, silver and copper) And in doing that it made the decorative flourishes on the sides kinda look like circuts or wires, I added stripes as well around the Silhouette for some depth.

Then I thought it looked to stark so I coffee stained it.  That was Fun!  Put your paper project onto a cookie sheet and heat the oven to 200.  then pour old coffee all over it and throw some old grounds here and there and it adds the stippling.  then bake it in the oven until it dries out.  It took about an hour and a half because its a card stock with a finish on it so it didn't soak up the coffee as quickly as just paper. MAKE SURE YOU DO YOUR STICHING FIRST!!!!!  The paper becomes somewhat brittle after this treatment.  I learned that the hard way in the next few steps.

When its dry and you brush off the grounds it looks like this.

I still thought it needed something so I added some beads, a bit of coffee dyed lace that I gathered and sewed on to her neck. I started to stitch cogs into her hair and that is where I started to lose some of the papers integrity so I stopped at 2.

I covered up the Disneyland with a label with my name on it.  Added some flowers, buttons and cogs  and presto! All in all I think it looks like something that a Steampunk guy would have hanging on the wall of his air ship to remind him of his lady.  I'm just goofy that way.  So what do you think?

I love it. I think I would love to try to do something like that too.

Going to have to look up how to do the silhouette.

This is great! An idea popped into my head while looking at this, a stencil! You could cut out the silhouette and the original embellishments on the corners and spray paint that onto several surfaces: shirts, skirts, a jacket, even a pillow? And treat the fabric the same as you did the paper. Sewing would be super easier on fabric, and you could show it off as much as you wanted! Oooh, that's actually sounding more and more fun. Keep rockin'!

This is so amazingly awesome. I would never think to do something that interesting with something so...commercial. I love it and wish I had one to make myself.

Thanks!  I'm thinking of doing the same thing with the kids. (yes I made my kids sit through it too LOL!)  What's great is you get two of them when they cut it out, so if you mess up you have another one.

Great job!!  The other day I was telling my mom that I wanted to do some silhouettes, but I never would have thought to decorate them.  I'm going to have to try this technique.
