I went through a ceramic tile-mosaic phase a few years back. I go through a lot of phases. It was fun; I would randomly break up tiles with a hammer and then rearrange the bits into pictures. Most of these tiles were freebies-leftovers from the local home improvement store. To get the proper yellowish skin tone, though, I had to go with some plates found at Target in the clearance section. The table I used cost something like 3 dollars at a secondhand store. It's not the greatest table because it has these little cubby things underneath, so it's not especially comfortable to sit at. But it makes a good surface to throw my keys, groceries, and other random stuff on in the kitchen.

I freehanded the characters while referencing a book.

I thought it would be appropriate for Milhouse to have the wine, and Lisa the Duff beer.

Grrrr

Excellent...

Thanks for looking,
Amy

Wow!  This looks amazing!  I love how the whole scene in set up.  I think Mr. Burns told Milhouse if he were to have any chance with Lisa, he would be to get her drunk.  Cheesy

F-ing awesome.  I was basically raised on the Simpsons, they taught me a surprisingly wide range of Jeopardy knowledge that use to this day.  I love your table.  I'm curious why you chose to include the characters you did.  Are they your favourites?  I like Patty and Selma myself.

Ha ha, believe it or not, I hadn't thought that far into the scenario. But I love your version of the story. I think that's what I'll go with if anyone ever asks.

Don't remember. It's easy to lose track of time while crafting...you guys know that.

It's pretty tough to choose a favorite Simpsons character; they're all pretty awesome in their own right. I'd have to say Lisa and Mr. Burns are pretty high on my favorites list, and I threw the other two in just 'cause?

You have inspired me to continue plugging along on my own "mosaic table of doom". I fully appreciate the precise pieces and small uniform spaces between them. Bravo!

This had to take you many hours of getting the colors right and tiles cut just so. Wonderful job on this really interesting project. Glad to see the sidekick characters used as they are often overlooked. Yeah for the Simpsons!

Just FYI this was posted on NEATORAMA today! I was so excited as I had posted it to my tumblr before they did! Cheesy

http://www.neatorama.com/2009/07/20/simpsons-mosaic-table/

I love love love this! One would think Lisa would chose the wine, but I actually think she can't hide the fact that she's a Simpson.

Wow! That's awesome. Great work! But I have to ask why Lisa has a Duff? She's not a drinker! Homer would kick Moe's butt if he knew moe gave Lisa a beer. Lol. But I agree that it's quite appropriate for milhouse to drink a glass of wine!

I think I decided that Lisa is an artist, a musician, a deep thinker. And occasionally she needs a drink or two to quell the noisy chaos that plagues her cute little head.

How did you do the black outlines? Is that grout? How did you get it so precise?

Did you color your own grout?  This is fantastic.  Nice work!

The different colors in the grout is just acrylic paint. Precision? Lots and lots of coffee. Followed by vodka to balance things out.

I love the detail.  I can't believe you use it for such mundane things.  But gosh I love that you have it out for everyone to see everyday.  That is something to show to everyone.

That is so incredible! I haven't tried mosiacs but i would love to do something like that. Did you draw the black outline with a permanent marker or what? Maybe there's some fancy tile tools I don't know of. Smiley

Thanks! The fanciest tool I used was a beat-up old hammer. The black outlines are just painted grout.
