Man, it's been a long time since I have been on the Craftster boards. It's also been a while since I've done anything crafty...but, having a baby will do that. However, the first birthday is a good enough excuse to bust out my crafty skills! We had a dachshund themed birthday party, since we have a 3 year old dachshund that we just adore. I wanted to bake the cupcakes from scratch, but with all the other preparations that I needed to do for the day, I settled on making modifications to box cake recipes, based on the suggestions in Hello, Cupcake by Karen Tack and made homemade frosting.

I traced dachshund shapes in chocolate, using Sublime Stich's Darling Dachshunds as my pattern. Some pieces had sprinkles and others were just chocolate. I think they turned out pretty delicious and pretty darn cute. I also made a dachshund pinata (even though it's not a dessert, I included the picture to give the full idea of the party -- and because I am proud of it).

The cupcakes look really cute and yummy!   I'd almost want to save the little chocolate dachshund instead of eating him....almost.  Cheesy

Hehe..I agree with "almost." They were tasty. They were kinda fragile at first until I perfected them, so I still have like 30 "test dachshunds" in the fridge to munch on.

This is just a cute overload! I adore the little chocolate dachshund decorations. They're so cute and dainty, for some reason I'm reminded of a scene from the original 101 Dalmations. Not sure why, but there you have it. Cheesy
