Thanks Sally  Smiley
I had an idea of what I wanted, and then made it up as I went along.
Used some calico to get an idea of shape & size, then added 1/3 to it's size, then laid out the fiber. It took a day to lay out the fiber, and another day to felt it all up.
There was quite a bit of detailing on the back (locks and netting) but I didn't photograph it.

There's not many (if any) classes in Sydney and I'm going through the processes to run one myself. Exciting!
It's a bit of a surprise that felting isn't bigger in Australia. There's so much quality merino running around

I'm with you there!  I grew up in an area where sheep/wool production was huge (we raised sheep on our farm too) and the region still has an annual event called Sheepvention (and boasts one of the lesser-known "bigs" of Australia - the Big Woolbales!).  Sheepvention is a great sheep and wool show for promoting wool and its uses, but since moving away, I haven't been for years.  I guess there are people out there who choose to do their art with wool, but it is not necessarily publicised all that much, as it is a non-traditional art form.  There is an active spinners/weavers group where I live now, and a few felters, but really, no-one around my age.  I've learnt a lot from the older women, but I feel the need to experiment with much different things.  I really should be sharing what I'm doing though, now that I think about it...

Good idea luvelycritter. You could always attach it to a tree on the day too.

I'm sorry if I've asked this before sallyb, but where about do you live in Au?

I managed to get down to the Bendigo wool festival this year, to help out with Wooldancer's Batt Lab. Gee we were definitely the odd ones out down there  Roll Eyes
But there were a number of very skilled people there, and I did learn all kinds of things about sheep

I would have loved to get to Bendigo this year, however work commitments made it impossible.  I'm surprised to hear you say you guys were the odd ones out there!  I was thinking of all places, the Bendigo Wool Show would have been a melting pot of different artists and craftsters!

I currently live in Horsham in the Wimmera, but grew up on a farm near Hamilton.  Next year I'll be living in Ballarat, so I'll be a lot closer to Bendigo - a quick trip down the road to the wool show!  Do you travel around much with felting and such?

Count me in if anyone organizes another felt-along. I've never done this, but I'm excited to learn and be inspired. If organizing this requires a lot of work, I'd be happy to help. I don't know how to do it, since I've only been a member of this site for one day!

I'd love to do something before the end of the year - but just what... I can't think right now!  I'm happy to take recommendations from anyone who does!!

We could do something Christmas themed...

  • a decoration for the tree

  • wet-felted slippers (Christmas stockings anyone?

New here, well I have been a member since 2005, but was without a computer for a year then found my way back here yesterday.  Anyway, not sure what a felt along is, but sounds fun.  However, we are in the process of moving and I will not be able to start anything till December.  Have not done any wet felting except around soap.
