I've been quiet for a bit now because I've been working on some major (well at least for me) pieces for swaps. My partner just posted her pictures of this, so now I'm free to do the same.
This was inspired by the work of
Ernesto Fidel Romero found on his Flickr page. You should really take a look; his work is awesome.
The colors on the sides correspond to the colors attributed to each cardinal direction according to the Aztecs. The believed there where five directions, with the center being the most important. East is also at the top since that's how they drew there maps. Okay, history lesson done, on to some blurry close ups!
This was mostly done in split stitch. Her hair is just a bunch of long straight stitches, and her face was what really worried me the most. I wanted to get it just right.
The flower like things are one strand lazy daisies. Turns out I really like that stitch.
