First off.. I have no idea what I was thinking...

Backstory: My grandma gave me allllll this yarn that her friend gave her 10+ years ago... Which 1) SCORE! and 2) what am i going to do with all this? (Just to get an idea of how much.. Imagine two of those large black bags that people use for outdoors FILLED with yarn)

Anyway.. I decided I was going to make my mummy a pretty afghan for her birthday, which btw was yesterday.. YAY MUMMY!

Again.. I have no idea what i was thinking..
I am using a pattern my grandma has been using every since I was very little, probably before that? I'm 20 now.. so who knows.. ?
The jist of the pattern is RIPPLES.. and SINGLE CROCHET...

ICK! It's a lot of crocheting...

BUT it is looking amazing and it will totally be worth it when i give it to my mummy.. (I bought her something else for her birthday since i'm not finished with it yet)

So i've been working for about two weeks on it.. Off and on.. So without further ado..

This is what i have completed so far... My mummy likes browns.. I personally am calling this the "Coffee Afghan" because I don't know what brand of yarn this is or what the colours are called.. So I'm calling the lightest colour "Latte", the next one "Caramel Mochiato", and the last one "Espresso".

and here's a close-up of the amazing effect of the single crotchet and the ripples that i'm absolutely in love with!

Now.. I'm not finished, but I would like to hear anyones thoughts on it..

I think it looks great!  Good going for getting that far in single crochets.  Your mom will love it!

Oooh. this is pretty.  And so far I have only mastered single crochet.  Can you please tell me how you did it?

That is awesome! You have a very lucky mum!
I love the idea of a coffee afghan!
What kind of wool/yarn are you using? - it crochets up beautifully. It looks soft and warm.

For the longest time i couldn't do anything but single crochet either lol. I finally picked up my hook again and gave crocheting a whirl.. and i finally learned how to read the patterns.. GO ME!

This is a pattern my grandma started ages ago.. and she just recently started crocheting again.. after i helped her remember her stitches lol..

It's basically a ripple pattern done in single crochet.. It's taken me forever to do this much! lol

I plan on adding fringes to the ends when i am finished.. I only have 10 skeins total of this yarn (and i'm on the 6th one), so this is going to be more of a decorative lap afghan lol. aaannddd.. I'm hoping maybe that i will be able to do 12 stripes total.

Unfortunately none of these yarns had a label on them.. But i dug around in the bags and i found ONE label.. It said Wintuk in taupe..... so maybe one of these is it.. But i searched Ebay and Caron's website and couldn't find these particular colours.. EXCEPT one which was called "Espresso"! Which was funny!

That is beeeeeutiful.
Your work is neat, consistent and very evenly finished at the sides.  Keep going, it will mean so much to your mum when she gets it.  It's a lovely piece.

Those are likely 80s or 70s era yarns. Does it say Orlon rather than acryllic?
