Newbie here, with what I hope isn't a stupid question Smiley  I need to find two pairs of inexpensive boots - one for a Jedi costume, one for a Star Trek (original series) costume.  I'd hoped to find some locally, because I don't like the idea of buying shoes online.  I want to try them on before I buy them.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any boots locally for less than $100, even at thrift stores.  So I threw caution to the wind and started looking online, but I'm having the same problem.  Even on ebay, boots seem to be pretty expensive.  So, am I out of luck?  Does anyone know of any online stores that sell inexpensive boots?

I'm so glad I discovered this place!  It's nice to know there are other people out there who are into the funkier side of crafting.

Are these for women or men, and what size? I'll guess and assume they're both for you. I found some brown equestrian boots on eBay that are perfect jedi boots, but with shipping, they're almost $60 and no guarantee they're the size you need. If not, try searching "equestrian" "campus" and "riding" boots for something in the right size.

Two more:

Jedi-ish boots on Etsy (all tiny, though):

As for the ST:TOS, lots for about $50 including shipping. I searched "black boots" and then went to fashion boots: calf-high.

And here are appropriate boots on Etsy:

Hope that helps. I don't recommend searching any "online boutiques" if your goal is to save money, because while places like Market Publique have some amazing stuff, it's not usually bargain-basement. Looking forward to seeing your costumes Cheesy

You assumed correctly - I'm looking for women's boots (size 9).  I completely forgot to mention that.  Wow!  Thanks so much for all the ideas!  I never thought of looking on Etsy for boots, or doing a search on equestrian boots - that's exactly what I'm looking for.  I guess I need to brush up on my Internet searching skills Smiley

Thanks again!

www.electriqueboutique.com this is my first stop whenever I need some boots for a costume and whenever I don't feel like paying a ridiculous amount of money for them. :>

NYAHA!

ST:TOS
http://www.electriqueboutique.com/womens-shoes/Black-Disposable-Retro-70s-Go-Go-Costume-Boot/242Z-BPU.html
Who can argue with FIVE BUCKS!?!? They're pretty cheap-looking, but if you go easy on em, they should last a few rounds Cheesy

And jedi boots:

$13 is cheap, right?

Combine the shipping and you're set! That's an awesome little website, Magnavox!

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone.  I got some nice Trek-ish boots from Etsy, and a decent pair of Jedi-ish boots from Kmart - for only $14!

Check out the following website:

http://www.911buycostume.com/Pages/gogoboots/boot01.htm

I have not bought from them but am thinking about it. I recently made two Jedi costumes for my sons and we were also looking online for cheap boots.
