Hi All,

I just finished sewing up a journal clutch/cover using Keyka Lou's pattern (she's on etsy, NAYY).

It was a quick and very satisfying project to make.  It fits the pocket sized Moleskine journal perfectly with a little room to spare on top to fit a pen.  There's something very pleasing about the Moleskine journal and to have a nice little cover just enhances it  Smiley.

I'm working on a second one right now and I would like to have some padding in it, so I might use some batting, or maybe wait to go buy some thicker fusible fleece.  I used a thin fusible fleece on the lining and a medium sew-in interfacing for the focus fabric.  I didn't quite get the feel that I wanted which is why I want to try some batting or heavier fleece next time.  Still love it though.

I reviewed this pattern on http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/readreview.pl?readreview=1&reviewnum=41241 if you're interested in knowing more.

That fabric is wonderful!  I love moleskins, too.  Mine might need a cover, now, too...

How nice.  I'm thinking that this would make such a nice gift!  Thanks for the idea.

Thanks everyone!

I made a second one, this time with heavy weight sew-in interfacing for the focus fabric and used batting for the lining.  I thought I'd like this clutch with some padding, but it didn't turn out to be true!  I didn't like the loft even though I did use pretty thin batting, plus it was hard for me to work with, causing me to struggle to get nice stitching.  I had a hard time sewing the curves of the flap with all that batting getting in the way.  Oh well...  Here are some pics for those who are interested in seeing a second version:

I love the look of both of these - great idea too, I always end up with rather sorry looking notebooks when I keep them in my handbag and they get lost at the bottom!

Just wondering, do you think this could be adapted for the bigger moleskines? I love how this looks, and am after a cover for my moleskine books, but don't want to buy this if it's not relatively easy to adapt really....

Looks fabulous, by the way!
