Okay, my new kick is using hardware in my jewelry designs - I mean nuts, washers, etc. I was inspired by Hardwear: Jewelry from a Toolbox by Hannah Rogge, but I found the designs too 'basic' for my tastes. So I began to play around.

I did find that lock washers look a bit like cogs and lend themselves to Steampunk-esque designs. Our local discount hardware store [Harbor Freight] carries plastic boxes of washer assortments and assortments of small springs. I'm 'gearing' up for a big round of experimenting soon!

But here is my first necklace, the 'Nutsy Key Necklace':

What do you all think? I'm hoping to sell it at the flea market this weekend.

Hey, email me. I do custom work. Smiley

Thanks for the compliment. I don't like just hardware. I have this urge to incorporate it with other more traditional jewelry pieces, like the key charm and the dangles and the chain.

I think I am also going to make a choker out of plastic tubing but add a nice pendant. I don't like just plain hardware.

I love that book too - but your necklace is really elegant.  I haven't quite figured out how to incorporate hardware without making it look too "hard".  Now I'm inspired by you :-)
