Headband, Earwarmer and Hairprotector

I'm growing my hair out at the moment and like to wear it up because I hate the cut.
However this poses a few problems in the colder weather. Wearing hats when you've styled your hair is a pain. No-one wants hat hair or a massive lump at the top of their hat! I generally end up forfeiting headgear to save the hair hassels, however I get cold. Very cold. Especially my ears, which end up aching.
So I made this ear warming, hair friendly, headband! (sorry the pictures are a bit massive!)



The buttons help the hair-protecting mission because you can carefully place and remove the band around your head.



I used a super chunky wool with a standard size crochet hook to make a tight and sturdy knit. It keeps it's shape and it's surprisingly warm.



I made another one in purple



I made the pattern up myself and I'm pretty proud! However any comments/criticisms/suggestions are always welcome.

These are way cute! Love the buttons. I'm growing my hair out of a bad haircut at the moment so I can totally relate to your predicament, and I think this is a great solution.

And thanks for the model shots... I like it so much better to see things being worn AND seeing them lying on a table. Better to visualize its size I guess.

I'm going to try and get some wool today to make a different colour. Only trouble is the sirdar wool I was using is quite hard to find in other colours. Does anyone know of any other super cheap, super chunky yarn?

And thanks for the model shots... I like it so much better to see things being worn AND seeing them lying on a table. Better to visualize its size I guess. 

I was in second thoughts about this too, but I agree it's always nicer to see something on - even if it is a bit awkward 'modelling' them.

Ooh - they are so neat!  I love the buttons.

I'm not growing my hair as such but I'm learning the goodness of earwarming headbands.  A problem I do have is that they slip off my head.  Either that or they make me look dumb because of their depth.  Yours looks great from the front but do they stay in place?

I've had no problem with these falling off. The tight crochet has a slight elasticity and I make sure I place the buttons for a fairly tight (but not uncomfortable!) fit. As the back touches the top of my neck it can't really slip down too far anyway.
