I always have extra bed sheets, pillow cases and out of fashion clothes that I know I won't use or wear anymore.  They're perfect for trying out patterns!

P.S. It's funny how the google ad bar above is showing bed sheet sales LOL!

Heck no! My first dress was made out of a sheet, and I've made lots of skirts out of others, too. Especially the awesome vintage ones! Here's my first dress: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=95931;sa=showTopics;start=10

Sheets are fabulous!

I think using sheets is resourceful.  A lot of the cheaper fabric at the fabric stores IS really poorly made!

Not lame at all. I bought a vintage sheet to make a purse out of a pattern for the first time, so I wouldn't waste "good fabric" and ended up liking it so much that I now use the purse everyday! You can find a bunch of neat funky vintage patterns to use.
In fact, it is the purse in my avatar.

When I got tired of the horrible curtains in my room, I bought a couple of nice second hand sheets in perfect condition and made a new set of curtains out of them.  They are really pretty!

definitely not. I don't use a bolster when I sleep, and since the sheet sets I buy all come with a bolster case, I get half a yard of material to use each time. Some are really nice, with embroidery or lace, so they save a lot of work.

if you dont like the colour splash out on some dye seen as you have saved money on your fabric Smiley

i use sheets for my mock ups, then take those apart and use the cut pieces for yet more mock ups if possible, or bag linings, cushion covers etc.

It's not lame at all. I've got sheets I've bought at thrift stores because I liked the print and SOMEDAY they will be shirts or something. Fabric-store fabric (or Walmart fabric) is expensive, and I'm pretty broke most times.  Grin
