First Miniature book
«
on:
July 01, 2009 04:57:58 PM »
I've always wanted to make a really tiny book, so when I stumbled upon a tutorial for it (that seemed incredibly easy) I thought - why not?
I know it's not perfect, there are actually so many things that are wrong with it - I should have used better paper for the outside, my headband is sloppy and the cardboard I used was too thin. I still like it though and I plan on making more (and getting better at it).
Here are the links to the tutorial, in case anyone's interested:

Thanks for veiwing! Advice, thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Wow! that looks so fantastic. I looked at both tutorials, that looks really complicated.
Yours turned out perfect. Your headband is sloppy? Huh? It looks great to me! but what's the jigger in the background?
dontcha think these would make cute jewellery? a pendant, earrings etc?

Thank you, I'm glad you think so. The step-by-step with photos made it easier to attempt. The thing in the background contains are mechanical leads, I used it for size comparison. You can't really tell in the photo, but the headband actually moves
which it's not supposed to do.
They would make cute jewelry... if you could find a way to seal it/protect it. I would rather use it as a keychain.

It looks great! I tried that tute, too, and it was really simple, but yours turned out much much better than mine. The different papers look great together. And the headbands give it a very professional quality. I couldn't work up the courage to do my first attempt at a headband in miniature, but it really makes the book look fantastic.
I've made a couple, and have the textblocks and covers prepared for more, but am holding off assembling them until I can figure out how to make them into pendants. Just putting a jump ring through the spine pushes the textblocks out a bit too far. Jewelry is not my craft of choice, so I am rather befuddled about what to try next.
And just for kicks, my first three, sitting on a quarter:

Gosh those are amazing gaudiknight! So much neater than mine, I really like how the spine pops out and how you used different paper for signatures... that's actually a really cool idea. I'm going to try it like that next time... also with different art/collage paper for signatures for a more personalized look.
I wouldn't know how to convert them into pendants either. When I made my
tiny book keychain
, I punched a hole into the front cover and attached a jump ring (strengthening it with an eyelet would've been ideal)... but these books are so small as it is already and a hole won't be very pretty either.
I hope you do find a way to add jump rings... I would very much like it if you shared your solution if you do.
