i'm finally  getting cracking on our bedroom redo. we just bought new bedding, but we're not painting right now, just no time,  this fall i think. our old bedding had matching curtains, did not go with the new bedding, so i made some curtains for our window/back door out of burlap! i chose a lighter color burlap, then added blackout liner since our bedroom gets early morning sun. started out doing just burlap, but they needed something, thus the striped bottom edge. love em now. and they go with our dk. green walls but also with the lighter robin's egg blue i plan to paint. and some green accessories that will stay in the room.

have to say, sewing burlap is a bit beastly and unwieldy, plus you get lots of random fiber floating around, but i love the outcome!

i made little pillow out of the leftover stripe, plan to make another decorative one out of the burlap leftovers and some robin's egg blue fabric i happen to have. Smiley

I like the combo of the burlap and the stripy fabric. Looks good with the door cover. Make sure to post your room when you complete it.

very pretty
I had burlap curtains once, but after two weeks or months (can't recall my college days too well Wink) they turned yellow super fast.

thanks, i really love them. and yes, burlap does yellow in the sun, but these have a blackout liner attached, plus we have wide wooden blinds up behind them, so i think they'll be okay Smiley

Did you smoke?
no.  I just thought it turned yellow naturally.

I think burlap for curtains is SO 1950's (and cool). Make sure to get untreated burlap. There's another kind- the cheap stuff with marks all over- that's stinky and not so nice. Also, a kind of linen burlap made especially for curtains.
