I jumped on the mustache train! CHOO CHOO!!

Well I decided to post this here because its not a toy and didn't seem to fit in the other categories very well.

I just completed a "Fun with Felt" swap and as part of that swap I made some felt sushi!  I LOVE the way it turned out and would really appreciate some feedback!

Little side note -- I made the box as well for the sushi and covered it with this cool black crushed velvet-like paper on the outside and a dark green handmade paper on the inside!

All four sushi rolls: 2x California Roll, 1x Fat roll, and 1x Salmon roe

Ikura -- Salmon Roe

California Roll

Futomaki -- Fat Roll
This one has avacado, egg, and carrot in it.

Tamago -- Egg

Maguro -- Tuna

Toro -- Fatty Tuna

Ebi -- Shrimp

Ginger and Wasabi

A Fortune Cookie...

...with removeable fortune.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also made a few other fun things for the felt swap.  First a pair of newborn baby booties.  I altered the pattern from Heather Bailey's website.  Here is the link:  http://www.heatherbaileydesign.com/Booties.html
And lastly, I made a cat teaser toy using a dowel, some ribbon, a fuschia jingle bell, lots of glue and some beautiful wool felt.  I used a template from MarthaStewart.com for the leaves that can be found here:
http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.019e967a237b3c7ba70ec2109373a0a0/?vgnextoid=960f540d7050f110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&vgnextchannel=bbb7a99556c5f110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&rsc=pets-taxonomy-list-filter_pets_pet-projects&lnc=bbb7a99556c5f110VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD
Oh and I fixed the stupid wrinkle at the tip of the green leaf after the picture was taken:
Anyway that's about it!
Snazzlecraft,
The sushi is again quite amazing!  What did you use for the rice?  Is that the same material as towels?
Guardie for life.
I am really interested in doing a personal swap, especially for greener things like reusable lady items, wool dryer balls, or other such things.  I can knit, sew, draw, and put things together in pretty neat ways.  Please PM me if you're interested.
I love the sushi, although when I try and replicate I will be doing mainly vegetarian sushi, and those little girls shoes are adorable.  I have a little boy and I keep thinking it is only a matter of time before I make him start crossdressing so I can use all thee cute shoes and dress ideas I have...Poor kid;)
Well first off thanks for clicking "This Rocks!!", it would be my first ever!!  And the only reason I didn't place it in the fiber arts category is because my mom was a fibre artist and it was much more artsy and lovely than these little crafted things. Tongue
The sushi is again quite amazing!  What did you use for the rice?  Is that the same material as towels?
Yes it is terry cloth!  I saw someone else online that had done it that way and I loved the way it looked!
1) the sushi is cute!
2) those booties you made are WAY cuter then the ones you got the patern for.  Makes me want to make a pair.... just wish I knew what I was having....  sort of...
3) the cat teaser is adorable.
I love it all! The sushi looks super yummy. Cheesy
The cat toy is really cute, too, but I would hate to let my cat anywhere near it personally.
Being a new mom has made me realize now, that you never feel like you do as good a job as your mom did.  lol
But honestly, regardless of what she did, how well, and how artsy vs. cutesy it may have been, this is still fiber art imho. Wink  If someone makes a phenomenal painting with finger paints, and a boring one in fine oils on hand stretched canvas, it's still a painting.  Know what I mean? Smiley
I just popped in to agree that the use of terry cloth for rice is genius and I will likely steal it. Also, now I want sushi.
I absolutely love all those projects! That was one lucky person! And ITA that the towel idea was such a great idea, I have been thinking of making sushi items for my best friend but the rice never looked right. Now that I know how lifelike it looks with the towel I will have to start making some!
Wowie wow wow! How did you make the roe?
I just used some large, dark red shiny beads for the roe.  I made the sushi roll but stopped the rice short about 1/4 of an inch from the top of the "seaweed".  I glued the beads onto the "rice" amking sure the holes in the beads were not showing on the top anywhere.  Then I filled in all the gaps with this stuff called "Glossy Accents".  It's a three-dimensional puffy paint-like stuff that is found in the scrapbooking section of the craft store.  It dries perfectly clear.  It not only holds the beads together but it filled in the holes and created a wet look (and it filled in all the weird gaps!)
Looks good enough to eat Smiley I'm going to show this to my sushi-loving friends ASAP! And I agree with everyone else: using a towel for the rice = genius.
That sushi is awesome!  But those baby shoes look NOTHING like the pattern!  Those Heather-Waht's-Her-Name ones are UGLY!  Your are gorgeous!  You should stop linking to her and start saying they are your original design!  Oh and just in case you didn't know...you ARE a FIBER ARTIST too!!!!  You make your mama proud! This is gorgeous work!!!!
Thanks for the nice comment about your Mom - I think the apple did not fall far from the tree and has certainly sprouted it's own creative trunk and branches. there is something to be said for genetics.   I agree the booties are to die for!!
Ah! A few months ago I used white terrycloth (cut up an old wash cloth) for a sushi-themed cat toy because it was all I hand on hand and ended up realizing it was a happy accident--the perfect fabric for rice! These are all really well done. Smiley
