I've been going fairly nuts making stuff for my brother and his lovely wife's soon-to-be baby, Arianna.  I already made her a quilt, stenciled some onesies, and made a onesie dress.  But then yesterday I wandered into Dollar Tree and found some cute bandannas, and knew I had to make little Ari a few more dresses.

Joe and his wife have adamantly insisted that there be no pink worn by their baby, so I made this one out of a lilac and plum purple bandanna.

The second dress started life as a yellow tee with an ugly design on the center front.  I found a cute yellow and orange flowered bandanna to make the skirt from, and an Iron-On sunflower patch to cover the ugly design, all also from Dollar Tree.  To make the top of the dress tie in more with the pattern on the skirt, I added some decorative orange stitching at the waist, and added some stitching to the Iron-On patch, to give it some of the purple and orange that appear in the skirt.

Detail of Iron-On after I "improved" it":

I ended up buying 4 two-packs of bandannas, so I have a feeling I'll be making more of these when I head home tomorrow.

I love love love the bandana dress.  Do you have any instruction you can share on how to make it?  I think it would make a great baby shower gift.

Thanks
Nicole

The bandana dress is so cute!

Well, I found a dress at Dollar Tree that was cute, but not well made.  I bought it and cut it apart to use as a pattern.  Basically, the skirt is one bandanna, and the top is two corners of a second one.  I can try to do some sort of tutorial once I go home, but I'm not sure when.  (I'm on vacation right now.)  Thanks!

Cute stuff!  Love the little bandana dress.  I like the way you "improved" the iron.

I love the bandana dress! That's fantastic. I need to finish up some baby clothes, and I might need to do a little dress like that.
