When I saw HSG's Mosaic Number project: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=297171.0   I knew I had the idea for perfect gift for a friend of mine.

This friend had been selected to receive a home by Habitat for Humanity. She is a single mom with two little kids.  The build started this spring and is moving along very well.

The main body of the piece has iridescent glass on it.  I love the way it shines in the sunlight. The outer border of the piece is purple textured glass but looks black in the photo.

Funny how the white glass border looked nice and even to me when I was making it but in the photo it looks crooked and crappy.  Smiley Oh, well, I'm happy with the project.

The substrate is a piece of cedar, sealed on the back and sides with silver paint.  I also put polyurethane on the whole project to keep it sealed and safe.

I think my friend and her kids will love it!

Thanks for the inspiration HSG!  As always, your stuff inspires and totally rocks!

Loveclutter:  I've done a few mosaics.  Nothing fabulously wonderful like HSG's but good enough for me.  I really like the process.  I've do stained glass works also but still haven't mastered the soldering part of it. (Soldering is harder than it looks.) With mosaics I can still do the creations but don't have to worry about messing it up with soldering.

Katesters: Thanks for the compliment!

this looks great!

i need to do one like that for our house, too (i have been thinking it for a while, even pestering HSG for advice... but actually doing it?  not yet...)

i don't think there's anything wrong with how your white came out.
it's not bathroom tiles, it's a mosaic: therefore, nothing is supposed to be perfectly straight.  if it were, it would clash with the randomness of the colored glass.  at least this is my opinion about it.

Hey, thanks!  That's a great way to put it.  "...not bathroom tiles..."  You make an excellent point!

Be careful of that mosiac stuff.....it can get addicting!   Wink

So nice to inspire someone to try new things! Such a wonderful compliment. Smiley

This turned out amazing! The blues and purples offset by the white numbers and dark grout are spot on! Not to mention it is a gift from the heart, so it is definitely a winner. Rockin'!

Guardie for life.

I am really interested in doing a personal swap, especially for greener things like reusable lady items, wool dryer balls, or other such things.  I can knit, sew, draw, and put things together in pretty neat ways.  Please PM me if you're interested.
