I am so glad I found the sewing machine thread (my last question was in clothing).

Anyway, I was given a Wal-Mart Singer sewing machine and have been fighting with it all year. I just read the thread about how much they suck and I have to agree. I don't have a lot of sewing experience and have been learning everything on my own so I figured it was all operator error.

New problem: I was playing with my machine (after it kept jamming) and dropped the feed dogs. Only problem is now they won't go back up. I keep turning the switch from down to up and nothing happens. I'm tempted to take it apart, but I'm pretty sure I will only make things worse.  Undecided

I keep wanting to make fun, summery clothes and all I've managed are 2 pillows.  Sad

Put the switch on the up position.

Unthread the needle

Turn the hand wheel a few revolutions - the feed dogs should come up as the machine cycles a few times.

Awesome! Thanks so much! I saw your site (and a lot of your posts here), and clearly you are a sewing machine goddess.
