A double layer skirt with tulle in the middle, now with mini tute sorta

Found the top at Goodwill, loved it enough to find some fabric to make matching skirt.  I hate working with tulle -- it's only worth it once in a while. lol

That is just adorable!  Forget about the tulle, how about that ruffle??  Do you have a ruffle foot or did you do that by hand?  I ask because I just got a ruffler foot and, though it will take me a while to become expert at it, I can see that it will be my very good friend soon.

  Beautiful outfit.  I've never worked with tulle.  But I can tell you that I hate working with stretch knits.

As for the model?  Heidi and Tyra better watch out!  There's a new supermodel on the scene!

To sorta answer your questions, I do have a ruffler foot, but don't tend to use it.  It may just be mine, but it has a tendency to jam and break my needle.  I've heard of people ruffling and serging at the same time, but my serger doesn't seem capable of that.  When I have several layers to gather at once as I do on this skirt (bottom skirt, gathered double layer of d*mned tulle, top skirt), I generally zig zag over a piece of elastic thread, and tug on that a little more to gather.  I generally work all my twirly skirts from selvage edge to selvage edge, meaning, one strip (which ends up roughly double the waist measurement for my dd, or close enough, lol) for the drop waist, two strips each for the skirt layers, eight d*mned strips of tulle, because it needs two layers to even show up, and then four strips (again, selvage edge to selvage edge) for the ruffles.  Sometimes I put ruffles on both skirts, but on this one I used a package of that double fold bias tape.  Then you just make the top skirt a bit shorter than the bottom skirt, and you're in business.  )  Make the d*mned tulle about the same length or a little longer than the bottom skirt, because it always seems to need trimming to make it even, then more trimming, then more.  D*mned tulle!
