We bought our house in Feburary and so far we have tackled the living/dining room, the bathroom, the master bedroom, and we are on the home stretch of the nursery (just missing the crib, dresser, and baby!). The guest room is going to be a huge ordeal and the second bathroom has wallpaper to take down so I'm wanting to do the kitchen next. After all, we use it every day... well, almost Wink

Here are some pictures of it now. I adore the white subway tile back splash and the counter tops are brand new and a nice mottled chocolate brown. I'm okay with the cabinets white and with their hardware and seeing as all the appliances are white and the backsplash is too, I'm thinking they should stay white. The light fixtures are utilitarian and can be changed and the floor is CHEAP yellowish vinyl that we would love to change but it was just put in this winter before we moved in and its in good condition. SO! With that being said, I guess I'm looking for color ideas. We have a lot of blues and greens in the house so I'd like to try a warmer color. I've tempted the idea of colbalt or robins egg blue but again, my house is drowing in cool colors. Here are the pics:

To give you some ideas of my decorating style, here are the rooms I've finished so far. Our house was built in 1914 and is a great Craftsman home and we want to honor that in the design, we also really dig steam punk:

you could do the walls with out tile  a blue color and maybe stencil something on the tiles.  maybe some of the trim could be painted to add just splashes of color.  any of those things would add just a bit of color. the kitchen is really gorgeous as is.  you could opt to stencil right on the cabinets in stead of the tiles if you prefer.

Hmmm, what kind of designs? Do you think a deep red or saffron yellow would look okay in there?

I think a deep red would look beautiful in contrast to the cabinets and then it would pull from the brown countertop nicely as well.

This shade of red is nice with bright white http://www.flickr.com/photos/kimberlyyates/3331216916/

Honestly, I would try looking through your spice cabinet for color inspiration.  I know it sounds kinda whacky, but give it a try. Cheesy  There are some beautiful colors in there... mustard yellow, chili red, etc.

Ooh! That red is fantastic! And it would look fine with the yellow floor that is in there right now!

I wonder how I can track down the name? I need to pillage flicker for some more inspiration. Thanks Sweets!

Im thinking that color with some stencil designs a la Frank Lloyd Wright would look fab in there.

haha, sweets to the rescue again! I like that red too! Or maybe more of a rust red, I was thinking kind of Mexican kitsch adobe/red inspired to go well with the other colors...how far off is that from your steam punk living room though lol! But at least then you would have some warm colors lol!  Or, in a totally opposite direction, I think lime green would be a fun color to kick in with the whites and browns! But I am on a lime green kick lately Grin

Whatever color scheme you go with, I hope you have some fun jars or something colorful to put on top of the cabinets, I think that would brighten things up a lot! Any more jars like in the living room? I love those!

A plate rail on the top open shelf with some really colorful or interesting plates/pottery would rock.

Or this thing I saw in Nordstrom the other day...  Tons of colorful glass vases in all shapes & heights that were backlit with bare bulbs (you could use rope lighting at the back base of the shelf).  Wow, it was beautiful... Maybe too modern for the feel you're going for in there, though.

I'm still voting for a blue Smiley Your other rooms are more greenish, so if you went for a bright robin's egg, it wouldn't be too similar (but it wouldn't clash)
