I just got my first sewing machine last weekend and finally managed to make something that wasn't an Easy Peasy wallet!

I used this tutorial (http://vlijtig.blogspot.com/2008/11/here-it-is.html) to make a fabric basket.

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out but I did get a little dimple in the outer fabric. You can see this in the last picture. I assume that my outer fabric was just a bit too big?? The dimple drives me crazy so I'd like to avoid it in the future. Is there any way to hide or correct it when finishing? Or do I just need to get better at measuring?

Thanks for looking (and understanding that I've only been doing this a week so my stitches might suck Smiley).

Behold the dimple...on the left side of the handle...

it looks great! and you can hardly see the dimple, even with you pointing it out - don't worry.

Thanks. I got the swirly blue fat quarter from Joann's Fabric this weekend. They are having a sale - fat quarters for $0.99!

This basket is really cute. Is it supported or... just out of fabric and no interfacing? What do you plan on keeping in it?

I love this. Will have to check the tutorial out. I so want fabric laundry baskets. Those plastic ones break and scratch everything. Thank you so much for the link and the post. I love your basket.

Those dimples happen to me when I make purses, too.  If the liner is too big, I usually remove it (me and my seam ripper are GOOD friends) and then sew up the side of the liner, replace it and hope it fits this time.  If it's the other way around ... well, I've been known to completely take the liner apart and sew it a big bigger.  Or, I have also make little pleats at the sides of the bag (small ones) - one on each side so it matches.

I'm pretty new to sewing, too, though, so I'm looking for better ways to avoid dimples too!

BTW- fantastic basket!  I'm going to have to check out the tute as I plan on making some as 'car organizers' for my grandparents!  Great job on it, too!  I love the fabrics.
