My girlfriend turned 30 yesterday, and for her birthday, I x-stitched portraits of her four favorite Judys.

Judith Butler, Judy Garland, Judith Jack Halberstam, and Judy Grahn.

The portraits are 2x2 inches each, and I got the frame at Ikea and the mat was custom cut for me by Nicademus Art & Framing in St. Paul, MN.

She's ecstatic-- loves it more than anything else I've ever stitched for her.

What a thoughtful gift. And bonus that your friend appreciated not only all your hard work, but the time & energy you put in to create something so personalized. It's always extra nice when the recipient recognizes and loves the energy put into a piece just for them.

I think this is what I love most about crafting. It's not as much about the time we take to make something, but the heart & soul we give in coming up with just the right thing for the person who gets the item. It's about the gift-ee knowing that not only were they at the forefront of our mind during the planning stage, but throughout the whole project. There's a lot of good juju in that piece!

And Happy 30'th to your friend!

my girlfriend has so many cross-stitched gifts-- they are all over our apartment.  i taught her to stitch, although she's not really into it, so she definitely understands the effort and time that goes into a project like this.  Smiley
