I decided to post the Cookie Monster scarf that I sent to Windoverireland for the Jim Henson swap. I taught myself to crochet -- well, at least to crochet circles -- for the swap, since I had the image of this in my mind and really wanted to make it.

The yarn is all cotton.

The eyes -- the pupils are buttons.

A close-up cookie. NOM NOM chocolate chip!

Now I want to learn more crochet techniques and try my hands at a pattern!

Thank you everyone!

It is very very simple, because that's all I know how to do.

The body of the scarf is knitted in garter stitch, because I'm fast at that (even if the only thing I know how to do is knit rectangles!).

The cookies and eyes were solid circles using single crochet.

Then I stitched chocolate chips on the cookies with a dark brown yarn, then sewed the circles to the scarf.

I bought "Happy Hooker" at the beginning of the swap -- I learned to knit (well, as much as I've learned) from "Stitch and Bitch", and it was so clear I was sure I could pick up crochet from "Happy Hooker". Not so. *lol* I tried and tried to figure out the instructions for crocheting circles and it just wasn't happening, so a couple weeks later I went back to the bookstore and got a kids learn to crochet book. I was able to figure it out from that. Ha ha! Now I think "Happy Hooker" will make more sense, which is good because I got a couple patterns to try to figure out. :>

So do you think its easier to learn knitting than crochet? When I see the 2 needles and all the loops, i looks so much harder, but I've been doing simple crochet since I was little, and have a hard time following any patterns, and I want to make cuter stuff.

I could really go for some cookies right now.

I don't know if one is easier than the other, I think it might have to do with whatever one learns first. My mom crocheted and disliked knitting (though she taught me how). She was super fast. She crocheted a wedding dress once. Heh. I just had a really hard time getting it from instructions in a book. I wish she was still here to teach me, I'm sure it would be easier to learn that way. Also, I kept splitting the yarn with the hook, that took getting used to. Smiley

Oh how I'm inspired!  I saw this yesterday - and ran out and bought some yarn!  Smiley  I am 'craftliftng' your Cookie Monster Idea and I am going to add a matching hat (with a giant cookie on the front!) and mittens (also with cookies!)  And I'm planning on making an Oscar green scarf with little worms on it instead of cookies (what was his name? Slimey?)  And my youngest son wants a red Muno scarf (from Yo Gabba Gabba).  And maybe a yellow spongebob....or a brown Scooby Doo....Wow!  I think Christmas gifts this year for the cousins are going to be scarfs!  Thanks for the inspiration!
