I decided to try freezer paper stenciling.  I am so addicted now!  Here are the first stencils I made, though I see many more in the future.
Blue Sun (Firefly/Serenity)

and an action shot

Serenity (Firefly/Serenity)

Blood Ravens (Warhammer 40K)

The droplet is crooked due to an accident with my iron.  I forgot to make sure the border was shiny side down and stuck it to my iron instead of the shirt.  Frustrated I re-stuck it down crooked.  I figured it's ok, the recipient is only 8 and the shirt cost maybe $1 total.

Fail Whale

The net and bird eyes are puffy paint.
and in action (she did not want her picture taken

Transformers

Individual shots

Slightly more blah-blah on my blog.
So, what do you think?  Did I do okay for my first stencils?

These are AWESOME! I recently did my first stenciled and used adhesive spray on a paper surface (BAD!) so I messed up the stencil as I peeled it off. I'm now making a more permanent stencil in case it messes up again. I like using wax paper such much more though. It's much easier to cut and my cuts are cleaner. Wax paper stencils can only be used once right?

I promised myself I would stencil all my own shirts this summer and I have NO idea why I didn't think of doing Firefly shirts. (it may be because I'm too stuck in my obsession over Jayne's hat right now)

Thanks Smiley  My son wanted one on the front and one on the back, but I wanted to do something a little less traditional.

Thanks!  I didn't use wax paper, I used freezer paper.  Freezer paper is paper on one side and wax (or plastic) on the other.  I believe wax paper is waxed on both sides.  I don't see why wax paper wouldn't make a good stencil, you'd just have to be careful when ironing it to the shirt so you don't get wax all over your iron.  Wax paper and freezer paper are one time stencils.
Hubby now wants a Jayne hat to go with his Firefly shirts, LOL!

these are all awesome! I love Fail Whale so much though, I never thought of using puffy paint with freezer paper (it tends to bring back memories of my childhood disaster shirts...) but I really like the way it gives the freezer paper some dimention!!

and I love the nontraditional approach to the transformers shirt

Thanks so much Grin  I was a little scared of the puffy paint too.  I imagined this horrible bubbly mess after I had worked so hard on the freezer paper stencil (probably also a flash back to childhood, lol).  She did manage to get cheese sauce on it the first time she wore it, so I'm anxious to see how it holds up in the wash.
