I made this for my friend who loves to cook. She has a really cool dog named Maxwell and while I have never embroidered a dog's portrait before, I just had to give it a try!  I am happy with how it turned out, and she just got it yesterday and loved it.

I made a b &w photocopy of the picture, then laid tracing paper over it and sketched over the photo. The dog is nearly all black, and there were not a lot of real outlines, so I sort of added them where I thought they should be.

I love embroidery and aprons!  Adding the personal touch of your friend's dog is great.  I had to add this as one of my favorite projects & wist it. Grin

I really dig this... I have always wanted to do an embroidered portrait of my dog, and he is almost all black... I'm amazed that you can trace the photo even though this dog is mostly black... are you using a light box to trace over?

Human rights are for EVERYONE.  Did you know that Aung San Suu Kyi had been released from house arrest in Burma? Many other prisoners of conscience are still being detained.  Please research this topic... Amnesty International needs your help.

BeatnikChick: I didn't use a light box, but I think I did hold it up to the window. I studied the photo and got a good idea of where I wanted to sketch lines, so that when I traced it I kind of had a good idea of where I was going with it. You should try it! It really is possible and it was  a lot of fun!

xperimentl: I am glad you liked it so much! I don't believe anything I made has ever been wisted  Grin I am kind of disappointed that its done. It was so fun to work on!

Cute! I love how sparse the embroidery is, but you can really see the dog's character.
