DETAILS OF SWAP

Description:
Have you ever wondered how much you can fit in an envelope and still pay only 44 cents for it to be mailed to its destination?  Well, credit for this brilliant swap idea goes to lovesclutter! Cheesy

In this swap, you have one week to fill an envelope with random craft-related and/or crafted goodies from your personal craft stash and mail it to your partner(s).  Some possibilities for items to send are embroidery floss, bookmarks, mini crocheted/tatted/woven/knitted things, inchies, ATCs, beads, appliqus, fabric scraps, ephemera, sequins, etc.  Get creative!

Per the USPS website, here are the guidelines for the envelopes:

For first class mail, the weight must not be over 1 ounce to qualify for the $0.44 postage fee (caution: if you go over the 1 ounce limit, it will cost you $0.61 for an envelope which weighs up to 2 ounces).

Size limits:
- Rectangular; length is the dimension parallel to the address.
- At least 3-1/2 inches high by 5 inches long by 0.007 inch thick
- No more than 6-1/8 inches high by 11-1/2 inches long by 1/4 inch thick
- Surcharge will apply for nonmachinable letter

Therefore, to qualify for the $0.44 postage fee, the key here would be to keep it more or less flat (so that it will be machinable) and to make sure it weighs no more than an oz
(gotta love those digital scales!).

Since this swap requires little or no crafting time, you have the option of signing up for either 1 or 2 partners!

The Fine Print:
1. Good communication is very important!  It is your responsibility to inform your partner(s) and the organizers when you send/receive your envelopes.
2. Although this is a random swap, the general rule of thumb is to send out things which you would love to receive.
3. No DCNs will be required for this swap (because the envelopes do not qualify for DCNs), but you must agree to resend to your partner(s) if the envelope(s) go missing (for whatever reasons).
4. Everyone who signs up for the swap must post in this thread!

If you want to participate, please submit the following information to the organizer (that would be me, loves2experiment):

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:

Am I the only one accumulating a box of possible items to include in the envelope?!?  I keep wandering into my craftroom, and fnding things that I hope my partners will like Smiley  At this rate, I'll have my envelopes ready to be mailed out as soon as partners are assigned! Cheesy

How fun and what a neat idea!

I'm going to add a teeny bit of weight with some strategically placed tape so hopefully the paper won't tear during shipping.  Smiley

Hmmm.... I'm going to have to get creative it seems.

=====
1.2 Nonmachinable Criteria

A letter-size piece is nonmachinable (see 6.4) if it has one or more of the following characteristics (see 601.1.4 to determine the length, height, top, and bottom of a mailpiece):

a. Has an aspect ratio (length divided by height) of less than 1.3 or more than 2.5.

b. Is polybagged, polywrapped, enclosed in any plastic material, or has an exterior surface made of a material that is not paper. Windows in envelopes made of paper do not make mailpieces nonmachinable. Attachments allowable under applicable eligibility standards do not make mailpieces nonmachinable.

c. Has clasps, strings, buttons, or similar closure devices.

d. Contains items such as pens, pencils, keys, or coins that cause the thickness of the mailpiece to be uneven; or loose keys or coins or similar objects not affixed to the contents within the mailpiece. Loose items may cause a letter to be nonmailable when mailed in paper envelopes; (see 601.2.3, Odd-Shaped Items in Paper Envelopes).

e. Is too rigid (does not bend easily when subjected to a transport belt tension of 40 pounds around an 11-inch diameter turn).

f. For pieces more than 4-1/4 inches high or 6 inches long, the thickness is less than 0.009 inch.

g. Has a delivery address parallel to the shorter dimension of the mailpiece.

h. Is a self-mailer that is not prepared according to 201.3.14.1.

i. Is a booklet that is not prepared according to 201.3.14.2.

=====

Maybe I'll tape the INSIDE of the envelope then?  Wink
