What kind of ruffler foot do I need?

I just learned that there was such a thing and now I've decided I cant live without it! But upon looking for one to buy I found that there's a choice between low shank and high shank. Anyone know which type I need? Also I have a Singer machine, does the foot need to be brand specific? Thank you for any help.

it depends on the type of machine you have.  Check if your machine uses low shank or high shank feet or something different.  It's usually safest to buy feet that the manufacturer specifies will work with your brand and model, just to make sure you won't get it and then find that it doesn't fit.

Your best bet is to call your local sewing machine repair place/Singer dealership and ask them to order you one. I called the Janome dealer I bought mine from and found out they can order me the exact ruffler foot I need for the same price I can get one on eBay (about $40), except I won't have to pay shipping charges, yipee! I'm just waiting on an extra 40 bucks to land in my lap

Ya, 40 bucks. I'd read somewhere that the $19 Janome high-shank ruffler was junk, and then the dealer guy said the exact same thing. I know, I know, he wants to sell me stuff, but I'm inclined to believe him, especially since the one I intend to buy is a clip-on, so it can go on both low- and high-shank machines (in case I get a new machine someday that has a low-shank).

Did DaisyAlly ever get her hands on one?
