June 11 I'm having a mexican fiesta for my graduation party. I've already checked out crafty chica for some fun crafty mexican style decorations or party favors but I didn't find much that applied. Does anyone have any great ideas for a party. Anything from decorations, food, party favors, jewelry or clothing?? It's going to be outside and we'll probably have a party tent. We also have a pool if that helps spark any ideas. THANK YOU!

OK, I'm sure I have a lot of ideas, so I will keep posting as I gather them.  The first thing I would say is that you should definitely have papel picado for decorations.  You can totally make it if you want to go crafty, but it's pretty cheap so if you have a lot of other things to make it might be easier to just buy them.  This site has a good picture: http://www.mexicansugarskull.com/mexicansugarskull/PapelBanners.htm

or you can just google "papel picado" and there are a ton of sites to make your own.

Good luck!  Smiley

If you want to buy Papel Picado, look on eBay first. I got a ton for my wedding last year from a seller named "wisliliana"...they sell them much cheaper than most places and they were really nice.

How about those crazy huge paper flowers? http://www.azcentral.com/home/crafty/articles/0913craftyideas13.html Make them like 8" across
for food, you should of course have tortilla chips and various salsas and guacamoles.  You could also have taquitos/flautas for walk around food.  If you're doing a sit-down or buffet meal, ther are obviously tons of options - a taco bar is always good.

woo-hoo! Im throwing a mexican-themed party later on this summer and this thread will be great to give and get ideas.

Im assuming this is high-school graduation so I would say have the blender out to make some virgin daquris/margaritas. Salsa-salsa-SALSA! The music and the food. There are some awesome recipies for quirqy salsas like mango salsa (I adore mango salsa). Pinantas are great. Fill them with that cheap-o kiddie mix they sell everywhere. Its inexensive and its good to have references to childhood espically at such a milestone in life.

Im not really familar with traditional mexican yard games.... its allways good to keep horse shoes and frisbees around.

You have a pool.... will people be swimming or is it more of a focal point? If it is just for looks turn off the pump and put in some floating candles-just dont let the pool liner catch on fire if it is an above ground pool. If it is going into the evening white christmas lights (or even colored lights) are AWESOME. The more the better. You can allways have those paper pag tea light thingies. They look really classy at night. A nice soft glow.
Ok, well, Ill stop now  Grin
