This is my first attempt at sewing. He is a gift for my friends son, to be used as support while learning to sit. My mum made one decades ago that was passed down from my older cousins to myself and then to my brother.

Made from fleece and ribbing, he is a bit over 3 metres long and has a circumference of 64cm.

What I've learnt from this one is to not use stretch ribbing. The blue inch of material was a pannel of blue ribbing which I had cut the wrong way and as I stuffed the snake the pannel bulged and went out of shape, so I tucked the material inside and sewed it up.

I'm extremely happy with how this turned out.  There was much umming and ahhing over how long and thick he was, I thought it was going to be completely wrong, but he is just how I imagined him.

Now that's a big snake! and it sure is cute and can see why there was so much ooo'ing and ahhh'ing.  I am very impressed with your snake but I was thinking one variation would be to make each color out of different textures (corduroy, fake fur, velvet,  etc.) of fabric, it is suppose to be good for babies as they grow up.  This snake would also be a great "lovey", or security blanket as the child grows up, I can just see him all wrapped up in it as he falls to sleep  Roll Eyes.  I bet his friends will be jealous at his first sleep over  Grin .  LOL I just pictured a two year old walking across the floor dragging a 9 ft. snake behind him.  Tongue Tongue

My friend just found out she is prego, and I was trying to think of what I could do for her, this would be great!!
I hope you dont mind me borrowing this idea!  This could even be a great toy as they get older, or sleeping buddy!

Thank you all for your feedback. I have been so excited all through this project. This was the first time I'd looked at fabrics, or to even learn the names of fabrics (most of which I've forgotten already, lol)

This is the rough original pattern, I decided to make mine bigger so that the body was thicker and could give more support.
I think it needs to be at least 3m so you can create a circle. Also, when stuffing, leave the end open and stuff that way. I was advised to leave an opening in the middle and stuff both sides and sew together. HUGE mess, I had foam pieces everywhere and I had trouble getting enough stuffing in to fill the panel I had to sew together.
