This is a representation of Peter Max's "Crossing Borders" painting which was created in the 1980s and flanked both sides of the border crossing of the El Paso Stanton Street Bridge.

It is tunisian crocheted , (that's the afghan stitch), using a size J cabled afghan hook.

I had to use a photograph of the painting which wasn't centered straight on so it's not an exact copy of the painting.

The border is done with a regular J hook in the basketweave stitch.

After I stitched up the graph, I used a yarn needle and thinner synphonia yarn to do the windows and building outlines.

Here's the back. There was tons of loose ends to weave in here. :p

Peter Max is a fabulous artist and I hope I've done him justice in this tribute afghan.

Very awesome. Your work is amazing, I've always wanted to try tunisian crochet (in something other than a solid color scarf) but have been intimidated.

One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its black gates are guarded by more than just orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep. The great eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire, ash, and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume.......
