I have been in love with Betsey Johnson's Tea Party Dress for so long, but could never justify spending $400 on it. Soooo, I made it.
It would have cost me $40 to make, but I had a gift card to Joann so it was free!

Original: http://www.betseyjohnson.com/store/productdetails2.aspx?categoryid=1101&productid=7027&np=1101

Mine:

And with me in it:

I haven't sewn on the back part of the skirt portion yet, because I'm trying to think of the best way to deal with the sash. Sew it directly on to the dress, or leave it separate?

Comments appreciated!

I love it! You did such a great job!!

As for the sash. . It looks like the BJ is just bunched and sewn in the front.. and left open in the back. But if it were to be more comfortable for you... I would do it the other way you are thinking of. ?

Great work. You look pretty in it. Get someone to take some more shots of you in it after you finish.

is there a zipper? sew it to the dress all the way to the zipper, and leave the ends loose?

That is really, really cute.  Did you use a pattern, or did you purely base the design off of the Betsey Johnson?  Put a light blue sash on it, and it would be perfect as a second dress for my wedding reception!  I might just have to steal this idea from you Smiley

This dress is so cute!  I think I'd sew the top and bottom of the sash to the front and then just tie it behind over the zip.  But there would be a million ways of doing it!  I hope you do put up some pics of it completely finished - at a tea party!

Thanks for the comments guys!

Hardyjenni,  I had an A-line tube top type of dress that I got back in high school, so I just used tracing paper to trace the different parts of the dress and then used that as my pattern. It was very, very easy!

Maehem, it does have a zipper, so I think I will go with your idea! Thanks!
