new dress

I saw the first dress on this post a few days ago http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=307473.0
and fell in love with it  so i just had to make my own..... not for me   for my little girl.
I used three different patterned cottons and as much as I like the dress its not as whooshy as I wanted it to be.... but even so my daughter loves it  and thats the best feeling in the world.

Ignore the face it had turned quite chilly by the time id managed to get hold of her and the camera so she was not impressed to be stood out in the cold.

This is a self drafted pattern but as I've already said I had influence from another craftsters' brilliant dress.
It's the first time I've made an item of clothing for my daughter that has actually fitted her first time, without resizing   and its also the first time I've done shirring and gathering .  Isnt it amazing how someone elses creation can push you to learn something new.
We have had quite nice weather here in the uk the last week or so and if it lasts I will definitely be making more, but with a few alterations.

That's really cute.  I love the shirring on the back, gonna have to try that myself!  And you're so right about being inspired by others on here.  I've learned almost everything I know about sewing from trying things I've seen on here!

That's very cute.  I agree, I've gotten tons of inspiration from this site!  I haven't tried to copy StacyCK's work yet, but it's "on the list."     She actually posted a tutorial for a similar dress to the one you used for you inspiration.  If you're interested, here it is:

Great job on drafting the dress and glad I could inspire!  It looks great on her.

Yep, just look at my tutorial if you want it more wooshy.    I usually use at least 2 cuts the width of the fabric to get a twirly skirt.

so far shes worn in everyday and I now have to  get it off her to wash it before she starts staining it really badly!!!!
