There is a lot of love showing in that quilt. That is something your son will always cherish. Good job mamma!   Smiley

Nice work - very impressive!

Well done at collecting al those novelty prints.  I am curious about the "quilt as you go" technique...

.. Does that mean you quilted each block as you pieced it together and then joined them with the sashing?

I'm wondering how that would alter the feal of the quilt.

Great I-spy quilt and I like all the blue tones on the back also.

Well done!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments!
The quilt as you go technique is great for people who don't have machines that can handle a large quilt.  Or, like me, I was afraid to start learning to machine quilt on the WHOLE thing.  It was easy to handle.  Yes, the blocks are each quilted individually before they are joined making the large quilt.  Once the blocks are quilted and trimmed, then a shashing is added to the front and between two blocks forming a row.  Then the rows are joined in the same way.  The sashing is so skinny that it butts up the edges of the blocks so there isn't a 'thin' feeling where the shashing is.  I'm assuming that the whole quilt might not be as sturdy over many washings as something that is quilted down to a solid back, but it pretty much has the same feel to me.

The cool thing about doing it 'as-you-go' is that each block can have a different back if you want, so the quilt comes out two-sided!

Wow - that's just incredible! And something they will use forever. It's not "little kiddy" at all IMO.
