puppygirl - my friend has her last name on one foot and her mom's maiden name on the other foot in that area so i know it's been done... i dunno why they wouldn't, but some tattoo artists have some weird rules.
pikaboo- ooh show! i want a volume knob behind my right ear but i'm scared it'll hurt more than my foot tat hurt. did they have to shave your hair, or is it small enough that it fit just right?

Nope, they didn't have to shave anything. I got mine done in someone's living room (with all the proper equipment and sterilization, of course). I'm a little upset it didn't come out cleaner, but I still love it. I decided to get it really tiny so that I could easily cover it up for work.

It's probably the most painless tattoo you'll ever get. I think because it's part of your head, the endorphins get there quicker and kill the pain (just a guess). The only thing that hurt was when he dragged the needle, but as soon as he let up, the pain disappeared. And the pain wasn't that intense in the first place. In fact, since I had to hold my head in place, my arm ended up hurting way worse than the tat did. Once he was done, it felt like I had IcyHot behind my ear. That was it. It actually felt pretty good! I'd say go for it. It's an awesome place to get work done. Just make sure it's the right scale for you, and that you can easily cover it up if you need to.

(Sorry for writing a novel, heh heh.)

i already got mine... it suckkkssss. i got it sept 12 and it's already faded. not only that, but it doesn't look as good as ANY of his other work so i'm suspicious. i already plan to get it covered with another tat. Sad
but at least you're right; it didn't hurt much (only when he was near the crease where the ear connects to the head hah)

That's too bad. Any idea what you're going to cover it up with?

damn.. I would go back to the guy and ask what happened! Maybe they used a different brand of ink or something. If it came out that crappy, they should redo it for you.

I just hate reading stuff like this. I still get upset about my crappy one. I had this guy do 2 of mine-the first one (a dragon) he did such an awesome job-I loved it, so I went back to him to get a unicorn (the dragon and unicorn went together) and it is awful. It was like a newbie tattoo guy did it. I haven't changed it yet, because I can't see it where it is, but I know it sucks back there! I found another tattoo guy willing to try and fix it for me, but I don't even know if I am going to bother. I just know I'm never going back to that place again (if you care it's Ken's Tattoos in Lake St. Louis, MO).
I hope your cover up rocks!

if it's already visibly faded, you should deinately go to the artist and talk about it. as far as i know  most artists will do a free touchup within 2-4 weeks (mine actually asks people to come back, so he can check up). mine all looked sooo much better after the touchup! especially if you have a really small or detailed design this might be the case.
i see this must be very frustrating for you, but seriously, professionals will want you to be happy with their work. even if there's nothing to be done about it, you should go back and talk to them, just so they know what went wrong (or that something want wrong, for that matter).
