Great idea for a tattoo-- I love bird tats and have one myself!  For ideas on how to make it really pop, you might want to check out the bird tattoos on this page:

http://www.tattooartists.org/Gct84_Bird_Tattoos.asp

On page 4 there's one similar to your idea but a bit fancier and in color.  You've got a few years yet to really perfect the design you want!

as far as price goes...it'll depend on the shop too. i go to a shop that charges $125 an hour...each shop and artist is different, so i'm no help there.

they WILL make a stencil of your tattoo...atleast from my experience so far. they will take what you have and get it to a transfer paper and then place it on your body where you want it...esp if you have it at a certain size that you like.

pain..hmm.i haven't gotten my arms done yet, but my husband has a upper sleeve on one arm and is working on the other. the outer upper part of the arm is the easiest to take pain...from what i hear. the further inwards on the inside of your arm...the more it hurts. just think of where your arm is ticklish when you graze your fingers over that area. places that tickle are the places that will hurt a little more because your skin is more sensitive.

hope that helps.

Thanks! that does help. I went in to get an appointment yesterday, and my appointment is on Thurs the 29th- only a week Grin!! also she said it'd be about $250, which I don't think is too bad. I'm excited!!

Shamelessly,  I think that would be REALLY pretty on the side of your ribcage.  It's pretty intricate, so it would look great nice and big so everyone could see all the details!  But ribs tattoos are rumored to hurt like the dickens, so I can understand why you might not want one...

shamelesslyahippie, I really like your design, although I recommend lifting the head up, as bent forward it looks a bit slouchy. I think it would look great starting on your right shoulder blade with the tail going down the middle of your back, good luck!

shamelessley, i think thats really pretty! i think it would be nice on your shoulder and when the artist does it i think it would look great if the tail feathers went along with the contours of wherever its placed.

so i have 2 tattoos and i have plans to get at least 3 more done. one is a drawing of a moon and some lillys and my grandfathers name and his years written in script under it, the other one is a bunch of stars going across my lower back and the third is a touch up of one i already have that now resembles a paw print or something but was supposed to be a crown and it has Princess written through it.. the tattoo is on my right but cheek and its kinda like my care bear stamp  lol... my other tattoo i have is on my back between my shoulder blades and its a pink star with black tribal wings.

First off.. all the tattoos posted here and in the completed tattoos topic are amazing. So much inspiration!

I don't have any tattoos.. yet.  Grin After a year or so of much deliberation, I decided that my first will carry a lot of sentiment and meaning. I've recently gone through some spiritual changing and decided that I needed a permanent reminder of this. So I came up with a design (that exists totally in my head  Wink) featuring a white dove with wings going from side to side of my lower back. An olive branch will be either in the dove's mouth or claws. I would really like an elegant fan tail with curls on each side. Then finally, "Jehovah Shalom" on the breast of the dove, probably written top to bottom, in Hebrew script. This would signify the peace I feel with giving my life to God and the great things yet to come. What do you guys think? Too much for a first timer? I'd really appreciate your comments!
