I would like a Sailor Jerry style pinup tattoo on my shoulder to commemorate my recently passed mamaw. She was in her late 90's and was a flapper in her day. Since she raised me I would like to sort of morph the classic sailor jerry style into a flapper type pinup lady with fiery red hair. Anyone know of any sites I could use for good examples of this? Also, anyone know of any great shops in the Memphis area?

yaaaaaay glad u posted! i've been meaning to message u forever. i was wondering if you got your tattoo done n e where near the san diego or orange county area so i could check the shop out. was it hard to explain the tattoo to your artist??

No, I got mine in AZ. The artist that did it is a girl who sews and knits so she did really well. I have gotten one tattoo in San Diego, though. Its a patchwork heart that looks all stitched together and falling apart. I got it at black rose on garnet grand  by Erik.

I went with my cousin today to watch him get his first tattoo, & now I'm all excited about getting mine. I'm 17, with less than a year to 18, & I've had this idea for a tattoo for a while & today just got me all excited. I photoshopped how I want it to look:

Someone told me that it hurts more than usual on your side; is this true? I guess it wouldn't really matter, I'll man up. I'm sure I can take it.

That's really pretty! My artist said (as she was tattooing my foot, another notorius spot) that ribs hurt the most. I guess it just depends on how much you want a tattoo there! I think they ALL hurt! But then it's over and you have a pretty tattoo. The price of beauty, haha.

Hahah seriously, I'm also going to get one on my foot! Just a small one-liner though, in Latin. Haven't decided what I want it to say yet. So now I'm wondering if the amount of pain is determined by how meaty the area is? Because it's pretty easy to feel your ribs compared to most other bones.

Without previous knowledge, I just happen to pick out the spots that hurt the most. Oh well, I definitely think it'll be worth it.

That was my theory as well, but I am not sure. When she went near my ankle bone there was a definite jarring feeling through my entire leg, which was a bit weird, more in the "what the...?!" sense than it actually hurting more. The bottom part toward the toes was probably the worst, she said they don't normally go that far down on the foot but since we were covering an existing tattoo we had to. The area just above the base of my big toe was *torture*. She flat out refused to go between my toes, though, so that bit remains with the original ink only. She said part of the thing with the rib area is that it's over all the major organs, so your body wants to protect the organs, and therefore provides extra pain! I think the bottom line is...tattoos just hurt....but you'll get through it!

think about it this way- the places you have the most nerve endings are the most sensitive, so pretty much where you are ticklish or where your um "hot spots" are, those places are gonna hurt the worst.
