Ive always wanted an antique sunburst mirror. The only ones i've come across that were of decent quality were well over $500.
So when this challenge came up I decided to make one.  So with a Jcrew catalog and wood base and mirror I finally have one for cheep.

I had enough magazine dowels left over that I made a smaller version too, I was thinking about leaving it unpainted but the colors
of the left over dowels weren't as fun.  So i think it might end up bronze or maybe a hot pink.

Enjoy!

This is cool, but pray tell, what are magazine dowels?

Either way it looks fab and I'm so going to have to make one!

I just cut rectangles of the magazine/catalog and rolled them around a chop stick... I didn't know what else to call them Smiley

So clever!!

I wonder if you could tape two pages together lengthwise and make a giant one... you know what I mean?

Ooh, that's a great idea!  I get it now.  Sorry, haven't had my caffiene intake for the day lol.

maehem, there is this local free women's mag around here that has really long formats!  Maybe you could try to find a big ol' magazine like that!

I actually only used half of of JCREW catalog so it could have been alot longer, the problem was the size of the chopstick because the roll wasn't as tight if it went over the ends.

I guess you could get an actual wood dowel from the hardware store and use a W magazine or that women's mag youre talking about.
