Yes I used a brush & i think that was part of it.  When I've done sponges on stencils in the past, I've had a little bleeding so I was hoping a brush would give more control.  Or maybe I'm just a perfectionist.   

It's a great way to reuse DH's old sweater he didn't ever wear anyway.    DH is amused by it & hopefully we'll have someone a "wee bit younger" to play with it at some point.

That hand painted cup is gorgeous!! I just love it!

For the stencils, I use a sponge and make my stencils from card stock instead of freezer paper. Prevents bleeding and the stencils can be reused.
