This was a big bag I made for carrying my crafting supplies:

I bought a plain white canvas bag at a craft store, cut the strap off, and sewed on a strap I made out of a fabric scrap. The paint is acrylic. It doesn't get too stiff if you water down the paint for large areas (like the background colour washes).
