This year I decided to make all my own formals, but after making a nice homecoming dress I got bored and wanted something a little less traditional.
A couple of years ago I saw a t shirt wedding gown in a craft book and promptly forgot about it, untill I saw this: http://www.stylehive.com/bookmark/tshirt-ball-gown-522617
I instantly fell in love it, (who wouldn't?) but it costs a lot of money I don't have and fits a body that's a far cry from my own.

so I drafted my first pattern and came up with my own version:

That gives you an idea of the whole dress, but the bodice is a little wrinkled. I have hideous posture.

back lace-up detail (the ribbon says happy birthday on it..this is what happens when you live in an area with but one craft shop)

bettter picture of the bodice

The theme was masquerade, or something like that, which we translated to mean over the top sunglasses. I do not know how we arrived at that conclusion. It may have something to do with the fact that we are awesome.

Also, I feel obligated to mention the gloves were actually 1920s gloves. (eep!)

the end.

Awesome! That is a great idea, I think yours looks better than the white one, and I love the red lace up detail on the back and your red glasses Smiley I reckon you must have had a great night!

Fantastic! I wish I had been able to wear a dress like this- way more comfortable!

I really like your take on it as well. The original is pretty, but your version is much cooler looking! I hope you wore some comfy sneakers with it Wink

I have a question about the construction- how did you deal with piecing it all together on the skirt? Did you use the seams as a design feature? It looks pretty smooth in the pictures.

The choices you make today determine the choices you will have tomorrow.

That's fantastic! I'd never have thought of using tshirt material-then again, I have lumps and bumps and I'd be worried they'd be more prevalent. This is super cute and creative, and the red shades are a nice touch.

I really like how you did this it looks so much better then the white one. I love that the ribbon on the back says happy birthday that just seems like it would go with the dress so much better then just a plain ribbon.

Fantastic idea.  Prom dresses really should be more comfortable.

Way to go.  I love the alternative take on the fussy prom dress!
