I came across this bag, http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2009/1/13/japanese-crafting-with-mari-monks-bag.html. I decided to give it a whirl in some fabric I am trying to use up. The mods are 2 zippered pockets a key leash and cute UK related zip pulls. It was super easy, even adding the pocket on the outside was easy. I wanted a zipper under a flap and I just winged it, I think it came out ok. What do you guys think?

I love the addition of the zippered pockets on the outside!!! I need to make a new one from the same pattern because someone bought mine off me for $50 while I was doing errands downtown a few weeks ago!

Sweet! I love the style of that bag and the fabric you used for it is great! Love the mods too! I have that tutorial but it's one of those I really need to sit down with and go over step by step. I love your version!  Wink

Thanks for the link and your wonderful outcome.  I love the bag but I must admit that the idea of sewing those two exactly shaped pieces to form the handle was awfully depressing.  That's just not my forte.  What to do?  I cheated by cutting the handle separately.  Sewed it together, as I always do, with right sides facing. Then I turned, pressed and topstitched it.  Next, I attached it between the lining and exterior, as I sewed them together.  Chicken, I know.  But, I've still got a great little bag, I think.
