Hi guys!

So like the title says, this is the first piece of clothing I've sewn all by myself! I used a pattern from like 1980 or something?? It's a pretty worn pattern, but if anyone actually wants the pattern brand or # I'm sure I can track it down. I did modify it quite a bit, just to suit my taste, but for the most part it's like the pattern.

Anyways I'm not completely satisfied with it. I really liked it before I hemmed it... it was just above my knees before hemming. Ok so as soon as I hemmed it, it like POOFED out soooooo much! I can't decide if it is a good thing or bad thing?? Any advice? I think it was because a) I did a really quick 5 min. job doing the hem b) it's quite hard hemming a circle c) I hemmed it A LOT.

I had to buy the belt today just so the yoke part, didn't stretch so much because it is a little bit big around that area. I think it looks much better with the belt? Mum says I look like I'm from the 80's  Tongue which I guess is reasonable since the pattern is from the 80's haha. The worst part about this project was pleating underneath the yoke if that makes sense? Let's just say pleating denim, is not fun at all. I'm an expertise at unpicking! Anyways overall I'm pretty happy with it!  Cheesy

Thanks for looking! Comments/Criticism?  Grin

I think it's really cute! I hate hemming skirts too and usually mess it up. I think when it poofs out a bit it's very flattering.  I actually almost like it better without the belt? But I am a fan of that style skirt to start with, I think I have about 5 from Gap outlet a couple years ago!

It looks really cute actually!

Maybe you gathered it a tad too much though? It might look better if the top part (first strip - around the hip area) wasnt gathered at the bottom.

Have you tried wearing it a bit lower too? With the belt on it it should look great too.

Thanks MareMare! I'll have to try it on again without the belt  Wink

And thank you raspberry-tea! Now that I look at it, it does seem to be a bit too gathered at the bottom....and yeah! I never thought about wearing it around my hips, that would probably look great!

I LOVE it! It's really cute, very fashionable right now and looks great on you. I don't think it's too poofy at all! If you walked into somewhere like Topshop you will see skirts just like this at the minute with a price tag of around 40!!
Personally, I prefer it without the belt.
You could wear it with flats during a sunny day or put heels with it for the evening!
Wear it. Today!

Really cute, good job. But I think with the belt off the waist band makes it look like it slipped down a bit. With the belt covering the waistband it will look more neat.

I really like it. Not too poofy, not too 80s. I agree with zowiewoahie, if the belt is right over the waistline it will look nice. Good job!
