So, I like rainbows. A lot. And recently, I co-organized the 3rd round of the Rainbow Swap. As a co-organizer, I got to help pick partners, and decided that I wanted to be paired with my best friend and sister-in-law-to-be, mcbenno. That's cool, because we rarely craft for each other.
Since she had my
previous coiled bowls on her wist, I decided to make her one in a more obvious rainbow color scheme. There are also rainbow coasters at the bottom of this post, so don't miss those!
This is definitely the biggest bowl I've ever made, and it's pretty large. It's around a foot wide at the mouth, and I shaped the edges differently than I have done in the past.
Anyway, pictures! I call it... the RAINBOWL.
In the center you can see how I actually wrapped the fabrics in rainbow order, but around the edges it gets a little lost and the colors start to build in complementary order (red with green, orange with blue, purple with yellow).

I used rainbow variegated thread to sew it, and I think I only repeated fabrics once or twice in the entire thing. I didn't measure how many yards it took this time, but it was a lot. I started with a 50 yard spool of cord, and I used well over half of it.
ALRIGHT! I also made these rainbow coasters with the same technique, and they make me happy so I thought I'd share. We had talked in the previous thread about how this technique could be used to make coasters or placemats, so I thought I'd try it out.
It works!
A set of six - it kind of bugs me that the red is a little bigger than the others, but it's not that noticeable. For these, I used threads the same color as the fabrics in each coaster.
