i have been tying to melt crayons lately in mini muffin tins but they dont come out smooth.the wax in the crayon all rise to the tops and there all bumpy and the colors dont even look that great

that could be it but i have melted craynons at 225 to 350 and all in between just to see if that was it but all the same results.

What kind of crayons are you using. Could it maybe be the brand? I have never had the wax do that and the colors can sometimes blend yucky. But that's just dumb luck i think. I would try a different kind of crayon maybe.

I would suggest grating the crayons. I know it's more work than just unpeeling and breaking them up a bit, but it might help them melt more evenly. You might also consider 'stirring' them midway with a toothpick to help even out the melting also.

For those of you with sticking problems - Kasmira Gypsy did say her pans were non-stick. If your pans aren't, try spraying them with a non-stick cooking spray or rubbing a little cooking oil in them with a paper towel. Yes, you will have to clean the crayons after they are done, but if they don't stick, it might be worth it.

Has anyone tried this in silicone bakeware?

I have this pan, and want to do the same, I'll have to get a move on my broken crayon collection.  Do you still use this for cupcakes and muffins (food)?

My girlfriend says the cheap crayons do not work (she tried and they don't melt).
