After posting this sling (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=304439.0) that I made a few weeks ago for a baby shower, my sister-in-law saw it and asked if I would make one for her birthday.  So I got an idea of what she wanted (do you want baby theme? Girl theme? Modern?) and went from there. I think I like this one even better than the two I made before. It is super soft and just looks great!

Almost all of my information came from Jan Andrea's website http://www.sleepingbaby.net/jan/Baby/

I decided not to sew the fabric to the rings, but left extra fabric to thread it with.  In doing this it is reversible and also she doesn't have to worry about the rings banging up her washer and dryer.  I use a twin sheet of 400 thread count cotton and 1/4 yd of decorative fabric on each side.  The green pattern side has a zipper pocket and the purple side has a velcro pocket (see other post for better idea of how this looked).  I made them big enough to hold things like a diaper and wipes, keys, etc...
My only hesitation is that the sheet is cream colored. I found the purple fabric first and loved it, but I had a hard time finding a color coordinating sheet that fit in my budget ($20 total project).  Thankfully Kohls was having a sale but cream was all I could find.  So my kids are getting her stain sticks to go with it as a birthday present  Wink

Here are the instructions that I enclosed.

Make sure that the rings are high (like you are wearing a broach).  Also, it is very important that it spread across your back and makes a cape across your shoulder. Place baby in sling, tighten up and go on your way.

looks beautiful! Smiley How safe is it, though?

as someone from a huge family, there are always babies and mummies who would love something like this as a gift, but I would be nervous about a wriggly baby slipping out of it... :S

I LOVE slings.  I never knew about them when my son was little, but if I ever had another baby, I'd get one in a minute.

This one is beautiful!  Is that a pocket I see on the back?  how cool!

And your daughter is flippin' adorable!  What a sweet little haircut!  She looks like a pixie! Cheesy

Completely coincidentally, I saw a woman wearing something like this today (although it fastened behind her shoulder not in front) and her baby looked snug enough in it.

Ring Slings are quite safe.  I use one nearly daily with my 14 month old daughter and have since she was 3ish months old (when I got my 1st sling)  The weight of the baby secures the fabric in the rings and keeps it from slipping.  You actually have to lift the baby's weight off the rings in order to loosen it.  And you tighten it snug enough that the babe won't fall out.  Spreading the fabric so it goes from knee to knee on the babe keeps them sitting securely in the pocket of the sling.  And spreading the fabric up the babe's back to their arm pits keeps them from arching back too much.  I love love love my ring slings.

OP:  Your sling is lovely and I'm sure your SIL will love it!
