I like your project and its subversive nature.  Very creative!

I disagree with the whole "worthless penny" argument.  I save all my change in a big jug by the door near where I lay my purse whenever I get home.  It really adds up.  I fill my gas tank, treat my son to Sonic, etc. with the money from rolling up my change regularly!

My son has an eagle eye for spotting dropped change on the ground.  It's not unusual for him to come home with 30cents or so at the end of a day of us running errands, and most of that is in pennies.  If other people drop them as useless, we save them as useful!

it would be an astute and lucky person looking at his/her nickle and reading " I'm Rick James, Bitch".

Funniest. Thing. Ever. The only interesting currency I ever find is the occasional Canadian penny ... and I once got a dollar bill that had "I GREW HEMP" stamped on a little word balloon coming out of Washington's mouth. (That bill is still tacked to the bulletin board in my office, actually.)

pennies aren't legal tender

Wherever did you get that idea? They are issued by the US government and are in circulation; of course they are legal tender in the United States.

Really neat idea!  There used to be a company in California that would make pet id tags out of foreign coins; but they were engraved and didn't last very long.  It looks like your pennies would hold up better, you struck them deeper.  I especially like the ND H8 idea.

Unfortunately, pennies are not legal tender.  Coins aren't.  They're obviously commonly accepted, but while most people think they are legal tender, they aren't.  Just because the US government circulates it, don't believe it. ;]  Check for yourself, no where on a penny does it say "legal tender".

For a bit more indepth information, go to http://legallad.quickanddirtytips.com/legal-tender.aspx.

But anyway, I love the stamped pennies!
