Or perhaps a penny for your thoughts.

I was feeling quite subversive today and think stamped copper pennies are the new graffiti.

Take a look for yourself.

Could not find the "right" category for these.

Are they are an artistic statement?
Am I reusing pennies to send a message to the world?
Who knows, but I'm really excited to get them into circulation.

There's so many things I could see myself doing with these.

I'm really curious what your 2 cents might be, especially if you have a metal stamp set!

They remind me of custom license plates, because there's not alot of room for the letters.

i think this craft is actually illegal (unless they have removed a law about defacing currency), but i hope you take that as a compliment  Grin  Wink

i think also you may have made the Most Annoying Coing In The Nation to be worth something.

that is the coolest thing I have ever seen.

I don't think anyone is going to arrest you for penny art.

yeah it's clearly one that's not enforced...  happily for dollar-stampers and penny-squashers.

There are a lot of misconceptions about 'defacing money'.

According to the law it is illegal to "fraudulently alter" money.  Altering the money itself isn't the problem, it's the attempt to commit fraud with it that is.

You can legall change how money looks, add graffiti, smash coins into rings, etc.  You can NOT legally change a dollar bill into a ten dollar bill, or shave silver off (real silver) coins, etc.

You can charge as much as you want for a piece of artwork made out of money, you just can't (legally) try to pass it off at a greater 'face value'.

Ok, here's my two cents worth.  You have done nothing wrong with the pennies.  mstelena has it right about defacing money.  As long as you don't try to pretend it's something other than what it is, you are just fine.  I have an entire collection of flattened pennies from everywhere I visit, and I even have a penny passport to put them in.

I think what you have done is beautiful.  What better way to say what you have on your mind than to circulate it on money?  Lots of people will see it.  Good job.

Thanks everyone.
Now the big question.
Do people understand the one in "code" with the = sign.
I wonder if there is a better way to write it?
I'd also love to get some more ideas.

Not sure if I can link to this, but this is where I got mine.

They are pricey, but worth it!  You can use it for some many different projects.

This is so cool! I would be thrilled if I got a penny like this.  Grin  I'm not sure I understand the "code". Equal ___ for all? I don't know what the "AT"? means.  Huh
