crosses in clay
«
on:

i'm obsessed with a few things, spiders and webs, lips, hearts, flames, and though i'm not religious, crosses lol here are some i've made
this looks bad, but the burning cross thing didn't even cross my mind until it was already baked, it still looks nifty i think
this is one of my favs, it's on my mantle.
a blurry webcam close up of the details lol
my skully cross, it's an ornament... halloween trick or treat cristmas if you will lol i burned him, it was one of my first clay pieces, so i painted him silver lol
and last, but certainly not least, my monster lol
monster took me about 65 hours and many many excedrin for hand pain rolling out all those bits lol the top layer is actually more 3d... it was a seperate piece i double stick foam taped on, it kinda hovered on top.

Wow, I love them all but my fave is the last one. Did you use a stencil or cutter for the shape?

lol neither and both actually... i folded a page of notebook paper in half longways and slightly off center the other so unfolded the creases were cross shaped, then i cut it like you would if you were makin paper snowflakes... then i rolled out my handmixed pewter colored clay the width of 3 popsicle sticks and put the paper i cut out on top and and cut around it, then i hand smoothed the edges and baked, the top was sorta free formed after i rolled out to about the same thickness and then i used the silver clay and rolled out all the lil bits on top and placed them... baked it and foam taped them together... the whole thing took about 2.5-3 bricks of silver and black sculpeyIII combined, the bottom layer was a mix and the top was solid black with silver filigree... hope that made sense

I especially love the silver-onlays one. You seemed to be saying you
weren't
using a clay gun or other extruder to make them
; if so have you considered using one to save time and hands??

first, let me say thanks to all... i appreciate any feedback given on all my works lol no matter how great or aweful they may be!
Diane B. i actually have a clay extruder but it's impossible for me to extrude much (especially the little spaghetti type strands), i have like no hand strength (which is actually why i started playing with clay)... and my DfutureH isn't always here... plus, even when i do get him to do it for me, they are rarely as small as i'd need them, so i have to roll them anyway lol the cross filigree is actually made with mostly extruded clay, but like i said, i had to make the snakes smaller, plus the balls and tear drops etc.
